Best hosting for Paperclip in 2026
We ran Paperclip on all three major platforms to find out where it actually performs best. This isn't a spec sheet comparison — it's based on real deployments with real setup times, real pricing, and the real problems we hit along the way.
What we tested
For each platform, we: provisioned a fresh server or project, followed the platform's standard setup path, deployed a default Paperclip instance, timed the full process from account creation to a live URL, and noted any friction, errors, or hidden costs.
Hostinger — Best overall for Paperclip
Hostinger came out on top for most Paperclip use cases. At ~$3–5/mo for a capable VPS, it's the most cost-effective option. Setup takes 30–45 minutes with a terminal, and the KVM infrastructure gives Paperclip stable, predictable resources. The main downside is that it requires more manual setup than Railway — you're responsible for server maintenance and updates.
Railway — Fastest to deploy
Railway is the fastest path to a running Paperclip instance. The one-click deploy workflow gets you live in under 10 minutes with no server management. Pricing starts around $5/mo on the Hobby plan, but costs can grow quickly with usage. It's the right choice if you want to start immediately and don't want to think about infrastructure.
DigitalOcean — Best for advanced control
DigitalOcean sits between Hostinger and a fully managed platform. Droplets start at $6/mo and give you clean Linux VPS instances with good documentation. It requires the same manual setup as Hostinger but costs slightly more. The App Platform option adds managed deployment but changes the pricing model significantly. Best for teams that already use DigitalOcean or need specific infrastructure control.
Verdict
For most people deploying Paperclip for the first time: start with Hostinger if you're comfortable with a terminal and want the best value. Start with Railway if you want to be running in under 10 minutes. Come back to DigitalOcean when you have specific infrastructure requirements.
